$2,500 Grants For Small Businesses, Side Hustles, & Micro-enterprises

We have 80 grants to distribute for eligible businesses that made $50,000 or less in 2019 and were adversly effected by the Pandemic.

The SEED Network is partnering with The California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) and MEDA to identify qualified minority entrepreneurs that operated side hustles in 2019 to distribute $2,500 grants for COVID relief. These grants are based on eligibility and are not competitive. We have over $200,000, or (80) grants to give away!

FAQ / Eligibility Rules

  • A side hustle can be any kind of business where you side a product or service to make ends meet. Uber / Lyft driving is an eligible side hustle. Child-care, DJ’ing, commissioned art, pop-up food vending / catering, are also great examples of eligible side hustles or micro-enterprises.

    Side hustles don’t have to be in brick and mortars / storefronts. They can be home based businesses where you make things in your kitchen, garage, living room, etc. You can operate from time to time at pop-ups, farmers markets, artisan craft fairs.

    Providing a service like gardening, teaching, massage, physical training, yoga, are also eligible side hustles or micro-enterprises.

    Side hustles or micro-enterprises sometimes don’t have websites, a formal business name, and it maybe something you do from time to time or operate exclusively via Instagram or Facebook.

  • The State of California releases several COVID relief grants during the pandemic, if you received one of them already–you are not eligible for this grant.

    If you received a Federal COVID Relief Grant, or a grant from another foundation or private institution–you’re in luck you still qualify.

  • Our grant program is only available to businesses licensed in San Francisco County. If your business is operating out of San Francisco, and not registered you can still apply but you will need to register your business ASAP to become fully qualified.     Businesses that sell products and services in other cities are eligible for this grant, but the business must be registered in San Francisco.

  • A Full-time employee is defined as someone that worked 40 hours a week and was on payroll and you issued them a W2 tax form at the end of the year.

    If you had 10, part-time employees then that would be the same as 5 full-time employees and you would not qualify.

    Contractors (workers issued 1099 tax forms) are not considered employees and are not used to check your eligibility.

  • No, this grant is for businesses that started and operated prior to December 31, 2019.

  • This grant is for businesses that made less than $50,000 in gross revenue in 2019. Gross revenue does not include sales tax collected, or costs you paid to run your business like ingredients, rent, payroll, supplies, materials, advertising, etc.

  • To qualify, your business must be your primary source of income. For example, if you made $50,001 or more in a year w/ your part time / full-time job–you would not be qualified.

  • An ITIN is a Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, is a tax processing number only available for certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses, and dependents who cannot get a Social Security Number (SSN). It is a 9-digit number, beginning with the number "9", formatted like an SSN (NNN-NN-NNNN)

    A Social Security number (SSN) is a nine-digit number that the U.S. government issues to all U.S. citizens and eligible U.S. residents who apply for one. The government uses this number to keep track of your lifetime earnings and the number of years worked.

  • This grant is for businesses that were harmed by the COVID-19 Pandemic and can attest that their revenues dropped by 10% or more.

  • The grant is for businesses that have reopened or plan to re-open in the near future.

  • Step 1: Go thru our eligibility quiz. Here is the link. This will take less than 5 mins to complete. If you are qualified to the grant we will then direct you to our partner agency MEDA, to complete an online application.


    Step 2: Have your documents ready.

    You will need to upload the following documents:

    • Schedule C - Sole Proprietor, Contractors, Single Member LLC

    • Form 1120s - Small Corp

    • Form 1065 - Partnerships

    • Government issued ID (passport, drivers license, etc)

    • San Francisco Business Registration / License (this can also be done after you apply)

    • Void Check for electronic payment of your grant.

  • You will be informed by our partner MEDA within 2 weeks of applying if you won a grant.

  • You will receive a payment electronically within 4 weeks after being notified that you won a grant.

  • The deadline to apply for our first cycle of grants is August 30, 2022.
